Classic Cat – the free classical mp3 directory

Here is a marvelous collection of classical music. Classic Cat – the free classical mp3 directory has links to over 4000 classical performances. Just search by composer, and then by work. A brilliant way to sample different composers and find your favorites. I’m enjoying George Gershwin’s Rhapsody in Blue as I type I would not have considered him to be a classical composer, as his work does has neither the heaviness nor the majesty I expect when I think classical. It’s actually a fun piece.

Cass-
I’ve got to check out Classical Cat myself – it sounds like a great site. As for George Gershwin, he was mainly a composer of music for Broadway shows – the “pop” music of the early-and mid-20th Century. Although he was not, strictly speaking, a “jazz” stylist, “Rhapsody” was originally written for performance by one of the more popular jazz performers of the era, Paul Whiteman. The version you probably heard is a standard arrangement for piano and orchestra. If you enjoyed “Rhapsody”, look for “An American In Paris”, another Gershwin piece.
Love the design of your blog! Hope you can find the time to see either one of mine:
